KGD officially hit its 30-year milestone on December 15, 2025. As we wrap up three decades, let’s sit down with Chris Gordon, co-founder of KGD Architecture, to reflect on his journey.
As you may know. Chris is both a Principal and Co-President of KGD, Deeply committed to strengthening urban communities, he brings passion and purpose to addressing the urgent need for housing through a holistic, collaborative approach that guides projects from concept through long-term performance. With more than 40 years of experience, Chris has helped build a design-driven practice rooted in excellence, sustainability, and innovation, creating high-performance buildings that elevate neighborhoods, advance equity, and meaningfully improve the lives of those who call them home. Chris is frequently sought out to share his expertise through panels with the Urban Land Institute and various housing associations, as well as through his involvement in community planning and public policy. His leadership includes serving on a county task force that helped shape Form-Based Code standards along Arlington, Virginia’s Columbia Pike corridor, leaving a lasting impact on the area’s development. Beyond the studio, Chris’s creative spirit extends to photography, golf, and time spent in his millwork shop – hands-on pursuits that reflect the same care, craft, and thoughtful making that define his architectural work.
