Since joining KGD in 2012, Principal Tom Donaghy, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP has availed his 29 years of design excellence to help create vibrant and dynamic projects that range from large urban projects to single works of civic, hospitality, cultural, and commercial architecture, all while remaining consistently sympathetic to contextual environments and the connection between the human experience and sustainable practices. Each of his projects strives to achieve both a sense of place and a quality of space, as he sees these elements most notably affecting the human condition. Noteworthy examples of success from this design approach include several hotels, including the Kimpton Claret in Denver, as well as the redevelopment of Elizabeth Square in Silver Spring that has earned multiple awards, including the national NAIOP Niche Development Design Competition for Senior Living and the more recent NAIOP DC|MD 2025 Excellence Award for The Leggett and Silver Spring Recreation and Aquatic Center (SSRAC), which were delivered during the second of three phases for Elizabeth Square.
Whilst his original aspiration of being a music major may have led him into a more practical and creative career of architecture and design, in some way, he still gets to be one of our team’s many rockstars! Scroll below for the link to his interview reel on our Instagram.
