On urban projects, parking is often one of the most challenging pieces. It is expensive, complex, and when it is underground, it can come with surprises hidden below grade.

For Orr Partners’ Red Lion Redevelopment, the project team is reusing the existing underground parking garage from the former Red Lion Hotel. Preserving this structure significantly reduced the extent of excavation required, helping to minimize cost, construction risk, and disruption to the surrounding site.

This effort requires close coordination across the entire project team, including KGD as the architect. Through ongoing collaboration and problem solving, the team is addressing challenges as they arise and keeping the project moving forward. The images ahead show demolition of the existing hotel and preparation of the underground garage as it is readied to tie into the new building.
